Vegetarian delight: We have introduced a brand new meat-free selection
Dernière mise à jour : 13 févr.
Thai cuisine is very rich of flavours, regardless if you are a fan of spicy or non-spicy dishes.
We have it all, but it would be a pity to have you miss such an experience because is strictly adhere to a vegan or vegetarian meal plan. This shall not anymore be a barrier, as we have just added a new section to our menu - #VEGETARIAN. By the way, this is just the beginning of meat-free and lactose-free choices.
Thai food: Traditionally a vegetarian, or even vegan option
If you’ve never or rarely sampled Thai cuisine before, you could be pleasantly surprised by how many Thai dishes are suitable for a plant-based palate. Many staples of this cuisine lose none of their flavour in the transition to meat-free, while most Thai dishes contain scant cheese or dairy milk.
One big reason why Thai food is suitable even for vegans is that Thailand itself is traditionally a Buddhist country – and vegetarianism or veganism is often crucial to the Buddhist way of life.
This approach has trickled through to the nation’s food – which, consequently, often jettisons meat.
As a result, many Thai restaurants – including our Sukhothai restaurant in Etterbeek feature a various vegetarian component on their menus, even while continuing to serve meat-based options which have been introduced to Thai menus.
What vegetarian options can you find here at Sukhothai Restaurant ?
If you are looking to dip your toes into the Thai culinary waters but without violating your vegetarian oath, you might be casting your eyes towards Sukhothai located in the European Quarters.
We urge you to check the new vegetarian section on our menu. In any case, though, you are likely to feel spoilt for choice with what is available.
For your vegetarian starter, you can often expect a choice of vegetable spring rolls, corn cake, vegetable tempura and vegetable and tofu satay… or even a mix of all four in one starter. That starter can provide enough for two people – you and your significant other, perhaps…
As for the main course, you could opt for Thailand’s favourite stir fry, tofu, or contemplate a curry. A green curry would pile on the vegetables and cook them in coconut milk, while a jungle curry would omit the milk but go heavy on the aubergines, bamboo shoots and long beans.
Hence, Thai dishes can seem like indulgent feasts even when they leave out meat – and this is before we even mention the vegetarian pad thai, where rice noodles are stir fried with egg, bean sprouts, spring onions and crushed peanuts.
